Genealogy (from Greek: genea, "descent"; and logos, "knowledge") is the study of families and the tracing of their lineages and history. Genealogists use oral traditions, historical records, genetic analysis, and other records to obtain information about a family and to demonstrate kinship and pedigrees of its members. The results are often displayed in charts or written as narratives.
Some scholars differentiate between genealogy and family history, limiting genealogy to an account of kinship, while using "family history" to denote the provision of additional details about lives and historical context. (Wikipedia entry on "Genealogy")
I have been researching my roots since about May of 2000. It was shortly after my father's death that I decided to try to find out about my heritage and have something I could pass on to my children and grandchildren.
You have access here to my 8+ years of research, mainly on my maternal side but I have started to research my paternal line in the last couple of years.
Disclaimer: I have tried to enter everything accurately but as with any work this size there is always the possibility of errors. Please do not take anything here as it is written in stone unless I have a link to show that I have an original document to verify it!
