What Good Is A Blog?

You know, I’m sure that some of us find ourselves questioning whether blogging is worth it or not. After all, you have to sometimes really work at keeping things going. Of course, for some it is no problem because they have the time to invest in it but for some it is just a hobby. You find yourself wondering just what good can come from it.
Alright, I’ll confess! I often times find myself wondering whether this blog is worth it or not. You write so much and get very little, if any, feedback. Your family doesn’t even realize that you have a blog even though you have done all you can to advertise it to them. There are many times that I think I am just wasting my time. I’m throwing words out there and they just disappear into the void!
In the past week or so I have had a little more inspiration to continue. Strangely, it is from folks I have never met! It is also due to a post that I published right at 2 years ago. Check out this simple post of mine from May 17, 2007. It is the obituary for George Byron Winkle.
Did I expect any response from this? No! I was just putting it out there to share with my family the research I was doing at the time. I had long since forgotten about this post. However, in the past week or so I have had at least 5 comments on it and each one has shared a different story about the Winkle family.
This is what I always wished and hoped for my blog and website. If my family would just take the time to leave a comment and share a story then the post becomes a wealth of information!
In the near future I will begin to post more obituaries and other information because I now see how doing so can connect you with your relatives!
Don’t give up on your blogging! It may take a while but every little post eventually pays off in some way!
