Taking Time To Make Some Family History!
May 19th, 2008 by kenopoly
This weekend was a very unusual weekend for me. I was actually gone from home for the biggest portion of Saturday and Sunday!
Saturday we piddled around town and, while looking through an antiques store, thought about my aunt who hasn’t been doing very well. We called and my other aunt, who is watching my ill aunt, said they would be happy to see us come down so we dropped everything and headed to Douglassville.
It’s about an hour and a half drive to Douglassville from our home. We got there around 2:30 and stayed until around 7:00. We got home around 9:00 that night. It was a good time although it was sad to see my aunt in the condition she is in now. She’s 85 and has been a go-getter all her life and now she is just a shell of her former self. She couldn’t even hardly sit up while we were there. It is always sad when you have gotten so close to someone to see them start slipping away as she is.
Sunday, we got up early and my wife and I debated what we should do that day. We finally settled on going to an outlet mall around Terrell, Texas. We got the girls up and got them together and just before leaving I called my wife into the office and told her I would rather do what she had originally suggested. So, we changed plans, didn’t tell the girls and headed to Arlington, Texas. We told the girls we had changed our mind and wanted to go to Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine, Texas. It wasn’t until we pulled off at the exit for Six Flags Drive that the girls realized what was happening. Needless to say, we had a great time at Six Flags Over Texas! It was the first time I had been there since April 1, 1988. That was the day that I took my wife there on our first date.
I learned several new things over the past weekend. I was able to ask a few questions about my mother’s education with my aunts. I was able to get some tombstone pictures along the way to Douglassville. I learned my youngest daughter would do just about anything as long as Daddy is with her! I also learned that I am not a spring chicken anymore!
I’ll post more about my day Sunday at Six Flags later. Right now I am still recovering!
Have a great day everyone!
