Ken,
Most of our homes don't even have front porches anymore. I grew up in a house with a front porch where we'd spend a lot of time during the summer watching the neighborhood. It really was a great way to see and know your neighbors. Folks watched out for each other too. That is one of the things from the "good old days" that I truly miss.

I had never heard of Blackjack, but I love the name. It's true, it would be wonderful to live in a place like that - I hardly know my neighbours either.

Ken, I have ancestors from Marshall and around Harrison County. But I've never heard of Blackjack. Thanks for the article.

Great article about this little Texas town of your ancestors, Ken! It is amazing how some of our family members lived - and what culture shock we would have if we were able to step back into time and visit them. Thanks for sharing about Blackjack, Texas.
