Saving History!

Life has been changing for me recently. This week I have started a new schedule at my job. I was used to working 12 hour shifts, 3 days on and 3 days off and rotate between days and nights every 12 days. My new shift is Mon-Fri, 6:30 pm until 2:30 am. It’s quite a change for me and I am trying to figure out how to use it to my advantage.
Why not save some history!
I’ve been working quite a lot this week on scanning some of the pictures I inherited last year when we had to put my mother-in-law into a retirement center. I have just had them sitting on a shelf and in a box since we moved. I am amazed at what shape they are in. The worst thing is that my mother-in-law seems to have had a fascination with magnetic type photo albums! To make matters worse, she would tape the pictures inside of the plastic part of it because (as we all know) that plastic doesn’t stick after a while. I have had to carefully peel tape off of pictures, pry them out of the sticky part of those pages and then try to scan them. It’s been quite a job but I have already tossed two of those terrible inventions out the door. After scanning the pictures I immediately put them into some acid-free albums. They look better! They are now preserved! Everything is going great!
Of course, you can just imagine what my scanner is looking like after getting all that glue on the glass! I would scan, clean the glass, scan, clean the glass, scan, clean… you get the message! It’s been a lot of work but it really feels great when you can see what you have been able to preserve. Since the 13th I have scanned about 400 pictures. They are cropped, saved and ready to upload to Snapfish where they can be shared with all my in-laws!
I’m saving history!
